Casio Kid Casiokid (and the ultimate soundfuse) are the Electropop tag team, influenced by 80s computer games and emotional poetry, have recently coined the genre Playful Electronica. A gameboy, live drums and a microphone are what set these 2 apart in the cutest adventure to hit the UKs underground Emotronic scene. The sound is a pure mix of Dance/D n b with an alternative melodramatic nature, created using the retro sounds of the 80s computer game generation. Formed in early summer 2007, Casiokid decided to ditch the guitars and think of other means to fortress their tantalising melodies. The influence of computer games had always been on the cards, and after spending a summer designing and crafting the idea, a sound was fused and music was created. Since forming, Casiokid have had huge success in the UK from their first full length cd 'Soundfuse' released in summer '07, comprising of 12 tracks aimed at the Myspace generation sold online and fully self funded. From introducing the CD, the band were asked to play at venues all over the UK and put together a mini-tour for what was left of 2007. Since then the two have been in and out of the studio creating track by track to find and refine a sound that they're most comfortable with, also stepping ever so closer to the100th show mark in way under a year.
The Black Swan Effect To understand more of the sound and history of The Black Swan Effect it's best to start at its core. Having spent 10 years as drummer in one of Britain's most popular rock bands, Reef, Dominic went on to play with such musical legends as Peter Gabriel, Ray Davies and Mick Jones (The Clash) and chart bothering indie band Kubb. Song writing partner Gareth's musical history is a little less glamorous with the guitar being brought out at parties and his song writing style evolving in the privacy of his own home without the usual pressures and attention of a struggling rock star to distract him.
A band was needed. Jesse Wood (son of Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood), Kenwyn House (former guitarist and Dominic’s band mate from Reef) and John Hogg joined and the band's sound evolved in a very organic way with some surprising results. A feeling of importance that is reminiscent of Radiohead's debut Pablo Honey and a yearning passion in Gareth's vocals that hinted at Jeff Buckley came through. Also more classic and jovial moments appear that harp back to the likes of Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones and showed signs of the fun the band were have creating their new sound.
The Black Swan Effect have a very bright future ahead of them with the release of their debut album soon to be announced and the support of the industries most treasured and influential VIP’s behind them as they set off on their new musical Journey.
